Can You Use Blink Indoor Camera Outside?

Blink cameras are some of the best indoor home monitoring cameras currently on the market. Their compact size, elegant looks, and affordable prices make them the perfect device to have in your home. Whether it’s for security reasons, keeping watch on your kids, pets, or any other reason, Blink cameras allow easy control and a great app to let you view all the footage.

Given that Blink cameras are intended for indoor use only, you can’t technically use them outside. There are several reasons that prevent you from using indoor Blink cameras outside. The most important factors include weather conditions, temperature, and the risk of the camera being stolen or damaged.

Blink cameras aren’t as durable as other cameras that are specifically intended for outdoor security monitoring. They aren’t waterproof, they can easily get scratched, and temperatures that aren’t within the ideal range will harm them significantly.

The optimal temperature range for all Blink devices is between 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C), meaning anything higher or lower than that and your camera will be toast. This is especially important in locations where winters are extremely cold and summers easily reach temperatures higher than this.

Even though Blink cameras are not made to be used outdoors, there are still a few exceptions that will allow you to place your camera outside. The first thing you will have to keep in mind is to position the camera in a place where there’s shade and a roof that will prevent the camera from getting wet.

Since Blink camera lenses aren’t designed to be under the sun and are intended for indoor use, you will have to make sure that there is shade where you want to place it. Usually, the best place for this is under an awning. This will provide both shade and protection from the rain. As a result, your Blink camera will be safe outdoors and you can use it to monitor the outside of your home.

? Tip: Keep in mind that your Blink camera still needs to be in WiFi range. Don’t place it too far away from your router, as the signal will get weaker and you may run into connection issues.

At the end of the day, you can do whatever you want with your Blink cameras. The most important thing to keep in mind is that indoor cameras aren’t designed to withstand most outdoor factors like non-ideal temperatures, rain, and wind. However, if you protect the camera well enough it can technically function outside as well.
