How Far Can Blink Module Be From Router

Blink is a home automation company owned by Amazon that focuses on providing some of the best home security and monitoring devices currently out there. The list of products Blink offers to their customers includes compact, fast, and reliable indoor and outdoor cameras.

In order to significantly improve the range, ease of control, and setup process, Blink cameras require a Sync module. This is an integral part of all Blink security packages and is crucial for any Blink camera set that you purchase.

In order to ensure a strong signal and optimal performance, you will have to make sure that your Blink Sync Module is not positioned too far away from the internet router.

The optimal range between the Blink Sync module and your router depends on the type of router you have and your internet. This includes your internet package, the speed of your internet, and the signal strength. It’s different in most cases, so you will have to test it out yourself by moving the Sync module away from your router and checking at what point the WiFi signal drops.

We recommend that you position your Sync module as close to your internet router as you can. This will significantly improve WiFi signal strength and speed. It’s also recommended that you have at least 3 bars of signal showing on your indicator at all times to ensure that the Sync module and your Blink cameras operate optimally. On top of that, Blink also recommends that you have an internet speed of at least 2Mbps.

Optimal Placement for Your Blink Sync Module

When you are placing your Blink Sync module, you also have to worry about the distance between the Sync module and the Blink cameras as well. You will need to make sure that the range limit isn’t exceeded here as well, or the cameras won’t receive a strong enough signal and will not connect to the Sync module or the internet.

The optimal distance between the Blink Sync module and a Blink camera is 100 feet. Even though this range can be improved, that depends highly on the construction of your home and overall WiFi signal strength. While planning this, you also need to make sure that the cameras also receive a WiFi connection. They don’t solely rely on the Sync module and require an internet connection to send back the data they’ve recorded to the module.

If your home has very few or no signal dead zones, no thick walls, or any objects that may disrupt the signal at all, the range between your Blink cameras and the Sync module can be even higher than 100 feet.
