Reputed hardware manufacturer TP-Link is known for its smart and featured-packed security camera lineup. These Tapo cameras can be easily set up using the Tapo app installed on your smartphone device.

This guide will tell you how to set up the Tapo Smart Home Wi-Fi camera in your home.

After opening the box, you will find various contents inside including the security camera, a quick start guide, a power adapter and some mounting clips that will help you set up the camera on either a flat surface or mount it on a wall.

The first thing that you need to do is set up the camera and you will need a stable Wi-Fi connection and a smartphone to complete this process.

Download the Tapo app available on the Google Play Store and App Store to get started. Open it and create a TP-Link ID account if you don’t already have one.

After the registration process is complete, click on the + button to select the security camera model that you own from the list such as the Tapo C200. Plug the camera into a power outlet and wait for the LED lights located outside to blink green and red.

If you don’t see any blinking lights, rotate the camera to press the reset button at the bottom. Now open the Settings app on your smartphone and go to the Wi-Fi menu.

Connect to the Wi-Fi network of your camera which will be usually named Tapo_Cam_XXXX with the X denoting the number of the camera’s MAC address.

Once you are connected, wait for the app to search for the camera as this process can take a minute or two.

After the camera is found, you will need to connect it to the Wi-Fi network of your home and enter the password. Do note that the camera can only be connected to the 2.4 GHz band and not the 5 GHz one.

Click on the Join button when the prompt appears and the camera will start pairing to your Wi-Fi network. Ensure that the LED light on the camera stays on for successful pairing.

Now that the pairing process is complete, you need to give a unique name and location so you can easily identify your smart camera. Press done to finish the process and control the camera from the Tapo app.

That’s it, you have successfully set up your Tapo smart camera. Now you control its various aspects such as increasing its storage, setting up a schedule for periodic recording or adjusting its position to your liking via the Tapo app.
