One of the best things about Blink cameras is that they work on batteries and last quite a while before running out. You don’t have to deal with annoying cable management and the cameras look gorgeous wherever you place them.
Almost all Blink cameras require two AA non-rechargeable1.5V batteries. You can’t recharge these batteries which means you will have to get new ones once they run out. According to Blink, you shouldn’t use any other type of battery to power Blink cameras and other devices. This includes avoiding rechargeable and alkaline batteries.
How Long do Blink Camera Batteries Last?
The average lifespan of most Blink camera batteries is 2 years. This can be relative in most cases based on how long you use Live View, how often the motion sensors are triggered, how long two-way talk is active, and so on. In most cases, the Blink batteries last up to 2 years. It’s rarely more than that.
If you want to avoid draining your Blink batteries lifespan significantly faster, keep the following in mind:
1. Slow WiFi speeds drain the batteries faster.
2. Similar to slow WiFi, weak internet signals also help drain the batteries faster.
3. Extreme temperatures drain battery life faster and can hurt your camera.
⚠ Warning: Do not use Alkaline or any type of rechargeable (Li-Ion, Ni-Cd, or Ni-MH) batteries. They do not provide a sufficient current for Blink cameras and can damage your device.
How Do I Change Blink Camera Batteries?
Removing the batteries from Blink cameras and replacing them with new ones requires a different approach based on the camera model. However, keep in mind that you will be required to remove the back cover of the cameras to access the batteries in most cases.
Whether you’re dealing with the Blink Mini, XT2, or any other, the batteries are almost always accessed from the back of the camera. Once you’ve removed the cover, pull out the old batteries, insert the new ones, and close the cover.
? Tip: The covers on all cameras can be removed by hand. You don’t need any special tools as screws or other parts aren’t included for this process.
